Gruler Gardens, owned by Monica Farrier, the founder of our local Wild Ones chapter, is one of the best local sources of native plants.  Monica holds monthly sales throughout the growing season.

Conservation Districts Another great local source for native plants are our local conservation districts. Most have tree/plant sales in the spring and some also have additional sales in the fall. Most take preorders so start looking in January/February for news of their sales.

Last year Antrim Co had a fall native plant sale. No info was yet available on 2026 sales.

Our 2026 Native Plant Sale is moving to the Spring this year! The sale will take place Saturday June 6th from 12-2pm in the District Barn. The 2026 Species List and Garden Flat Order Forms will be available soon, so check back often!”

In 2026 Emmet Co also had a fall native plant sale.

The spring tree sale brochure is online. Preorders are due by March 20th and order pick up will be done April 24-25. Walk-ins will be welcome.

They are also looking for volunteers to help with transplanting on specific dates this winter & spring. See the website for dates and times.

Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association

The Northern Michigan Master Gardener Association has an annual plant sale at the Emmet Co Fairgrounds. This year the sale is scheduled for May 30th.

If you don’t mind a longer drive there are some other great native plant nurseries within a three hour drive of the Petoskey Library.

Birdsfoot supplies native plant stock to retail nurseries and organizations that have plant sales. Retail sales are limited to Garden Kits and Single Species plug flats. Spring 2026 pre-orders will open in March. Distance to library 1 hr 20 min.

Located at 7557 E Harrys Road in Traverse City. Their online native plant list is info only so call before you go to make sure they have what you want in stock. Distance to library 1 hr 35 min.

Black Cap Farms https://www.blackcapplants.com/

Located at 5265 Crescent Beach Rd in Onekama, Black Cap Farms is open to the public and has a great variety of native plants for sale. Distance to library 2 hr 25 min.

Wild Type Nursery https://www.wildtypeplants.com/

Located at 900 N Every Rd in Mason, Wild Type Nursery is only open to the public on certain days of the year. Below are dates in May. There are additional dates on their website in August. Distance to library 3 hr 15 min.

Located in Free Soil, Michigan, Cold Stream Farm is a wholesale shrub and tree company that sells plants online. They sell to the public as well, with product discounts given based on quantity ordered.

Izel has a different model from other vendors. They consolidate the inventories of several native plant nurseries into a single website.

Prairie Moon sells native plants as well as seeds. The website is a great resource if you are researching what is native to your area as well as providing germination requirements for all the seeds they sell.
